Until I got in my rented Nissan Sunny and turned the key in the ignition and the car did nothing. Oh, it clicked at me and the dashboard lights blinked, but that's all. Ever the optimist (or maybe it was just denial), I tried the key again, thinking that it was just a fluke and surely this time all would go well.
Nope.
It's 7:30. I'm supposed to be at school at 7:45. The other teachers in my complex have already left (they actually have students that arrive by 8:00, I don't start teaching until 9:15. Tough life, I know), and I don't have their phone numbers anyway. The school's phone number is not even programmed into my phone - stupid, yes, I know. Anyway, I tried calling the one person whose phone number I did have, and it actually turned out to be the school's main line! Something went right!
Thankfully, it was arranged that someone from the main office could come get me (as a single woman, it is not recommended for me to hail a taxi), and he did and I arrived at school only 30 minutes late. I'm now playing phone tag with the car rental company. Here's hoping I get a different vehicle this afternoon!
Yikes!
