Indian Mela

On Friday, the Indian staff put on a Mela (may-la), which is a gathering or party,  as i understand it.  I could be wrong - it has happened before.  It was lovely - lots of colors, different booths set up to learn (briefly) about all things Indian.

There are two booths here - one was snack food (I have no idea what I ate, but it was really good!) and the men's head wrapping demonstration.

Check out the beautiful fabrics hanging on the walls!  Unclose, they're even more beautiful.  The first booth (with the man in the green shirt) was also about Indian food and spices (there's a picture of the spices later).  The next boot was from the school's Indian Studies resources - if you want to learn or teach something about India, they've got it!

Floor decoration - this was very fragrant, as it was made of flower petals.  The decorations outside my apartment door are made of colored rice.

Here's a henna station, and *gasp* MEN were doing the henna patterns!  Coming from the Middle East, that was shocking, as henna seemed to only be for and be done by women.  Kind of fun to see the little boys want cool designs on their hands.

Here are the spices.  I didn't try them, but I could smell them!  To bad this picture can't be a scratch and sniff.

There was a booth about Delhi, about traditional Indian clothing, Indian Festivals and one for the Travel agency at the school.  Yup, there's a travel agency at school, and they are willing to help set up any and all travel needs, personal or professional.  Whatever will I do?
